You have finally moved into your new home. All of your furniture and belongings are arranged to their new spots and now you are probably wondering what to do with all the cardboard boxes lying on the floor. The easiest and quickest solution would be to collect them and to toss them in the bin. But throwing them away is not very eco-friendly. Plus, if you have spent money on them, you may want to give them a second life.
Don’t reuse the boxes
Many people are tempted to keep their moving boxes until the next time they relocate. That, however, should be avoided as old boxes are usually not very durable. In addition, they may have a bad smell and if they are not stored properly, they may become a cosy home of various insects and bacteria. Nevertheless, if you are determined to reuse your moving supplies make sure you follow these tips:
- Keep only the boxes that are in a good condition
- Prepare them for storage by removing any tape from them
- Store them in a dry place, away from direct sunlight
- Make sure you fold them flat
A great thing to do when you don’t want your packing materials to go to waste is to find a new purpose for them. For instance, moving boxes are an excellent storage solution for any home, no matter how small or big it is. If you are a proud owner of a cat, you can use one of the boxes to make a brand new bed for your pet. Just put an old blanket in it and cut a hole on one of its sides. There are plenty of ways in which you can repurpose your cardboard boxes. Browse the web for some ideas and inspiration and give reign to your creative side.
If some of your moving boxes are not in a good enough condition to be reused or repurposed, you can simply recycle them. There are a few ways in which you can do that. One of them is by leaving your boxes in a recycling bin in your area. If, however, there isn’t one, you can contact a waste collection company and ask them to pick up the materials for recycling. In fact, try asking your domestic removal company if they can be of any assistance to you. Many moving home businesses in London provide a rubbish clearance service as well.
Give them away or sell them
Selling your moving boxes is also an option, but don’t expect that you will be able to make good money out of it. What is more, finding people who want to buy used cardboard boxes can be challenging. If that ends up to be the case with you, give them away to friends, relatives, neighbours or colleagues of yours who may need them. Also, consider donating them to churches, schools, libraries or other institutions that regularly use cardboard boxes for one thing or another. Your gesture would certainly be appreciated.
